Marking the 14th anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon pledged to step up efforts aimed at stopping such tragedies from happening again.

Eugenie Mukeshimana, who lost her family in the genocide, also spoke and then lit a candle in memory of the victims, surrounded by nine Rwandan children.
