“A winning combination!” That is how Executive Producer Sydney Reid puts it as he teams up with multiple Actor Boy award winners playwright Aston Cooke and Artistic Director fabian thomas, to stage his next highly-anticipated production in Western Jamaica.
‘CONCUBINE?’ now in rehearsal, is scheduled to have its Montego Bay premier on Saturday, January 31, at the Fairfield Theatre. The three-weekend run at Fairfield will be followed by a limited run at another venue in Montego Bay and a one-weekend only engagement in Kingston.
Described as a rib-tickling yet thought provoking comedy, this Actor-Boy award-winning script preceded Cooke’s highly successful production ‘Jamaica 2 Rahtid- Pupalick,’ now playing at the Pantry Playhouse in Kingston. The comedy looks at the issues of common law relationships in Jamaica and the rights of the individuals involved particularly the woman. In CONCUBINE?, the characters Winston and Patsy lived together in a common law relationship for 15 years, until Winston declares he wants to marry another woman. Winston’s subsequent marriage and Patsy’s reaction to the new union contributes to the development of this well crafted real life comedy.
CONCUBINE? boasts an outstanding line up of some of Montego Bay’s finest actors, which includes the Actor Boy award-winning, Makeda Solomon, along side critically acclaimed actor Tony Rodney. Rodney alternates with Recardo Redwood, a veteran of the LTM Pantomime making his debut in Montego Bay. The cast is made complete by Kerisha Nelson (from the Montego Bay production of Basil Dawkins’ ‘Hot Spot’), as well as Marlon Brown and Maliaka Bryce (both last seen in ‘Bay Vibes’).
All performances of CONCUBINE? at the Fairfield Theatre are available to Service Clubs, Community Organizations and Charity Groups to raise funds. Interested groups may contact Fabian Thomas at [email protected].
